Consider: Burger King mocking Tony Romo by way of his “blimpy” ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson.
Take home questions:
1. Is Burger King, of all companies, allowed to make fun of anyone for being fat seeing as they’re half the reason for the obesity crisis in this country?
2. Tony Romo & J. Simp have been broken up for some time now and while I don’t watch football I have it on good authority that he still sucks. So does it make any sense to still be blaming her for his problems?
3. How does airing a commercial in primetime that mocks an actress’ weight sell football to men? Do men really care?
4. Does anyone really think Jessica Simpson is fat?
Consider: Nicole Eggert mocking herself on Funny or Die for “getting fat” by spoofing her Baywatch days.
Take home questions:
1. Does it hurt less if you beat your critics to the punchline and call yourself out for being “fat”?
2. Why would she do this? Has Nicole Eggert done anything since Baywatch? Is she pimping some new b-level movie or something? Why??
3. Are there any women who really found this funny? Are there any men?
4. Is she really fat or is she just a victim of cruel camera angles and a too-tight bikini?
Bonus question: Have you ever pretended to be dying to get someone to give you mouth-to-mouth? Have you ever received mouth-to-mouth when you didn’t need it? Because I have (lifeguard class, junior year of high school) and let me tell you, it is nothing like kissing.
Go to students! I expect your homework on my desk (i.e. inbox) by morning!
It always feels better to laugh at yourself before someone else laughs at you…it's just a protection mechanism. That being said, given a bikini a size bigger, I'd trade bods with Nicole any day…and definitely Jessica too!
poor jessica simpson – i love her!!!! That Tony fellow is a jackass for dumping her on the DAY BEFORE HER BIRTHDAY!!! what a giant doofus and AS IF she's a porker? good GRIEF!!!??!!!????
I seriously thought I was the only one who didnt think the NE video was funny…
I don't consider Jessica Simpson to be fat. I do think she's a yo-yo dieter who has gained weight and needs a new stylist who dresses her in appropriate sized clothing. Nobody, size 2 or size 22 looks good in clothes that are too small. A few flattering outfits and she would look AMAZING! I'm very tired of the standard Hollywood size 0 starlet.
And yes, Tony Romo still sucks.
As far as the Funny or Die video goes, I have to say that I'm a bit offended (and I rarely get offended.) Sure, she has gained weight over the past 20 years, but she still looks amazing. Nobody, especially horny boys, would think she's fat. For her to identify herself as such, what's that say to me and the 90% of women who are larger than her. I know the video is supposed to be funny, but again, nobody looks good in clothing that's too small, especially at that angle.
Yeccch!
The worst thing is, some women who are larger than either of these "fat" women are going to feel humiliated by these obnoxious videos, rather than furious.
I can't see the videos from here, but judging by your post and the content from the links, Burger King is doing the equivalent of every bathroom humor movie ever made. Mean Guy/Girl convincess Good Guy/Girl to do something. When it goes wrong, Mean Guy/Girl points it out to everyone and starts laughing. Example: "American Pie" – Stifler puts an Ex-Lax substance in Finch's drink. Stifler gets Finch to the (girl's) bathroom. After an embarassing display of bathroom functions, Finch walks out of the Girl's Bathroom and walks into a crowd of people who begin pointing and laughing at him.
Burger King is no different in this case. For years they've been doling out oversized, unhealthy meals, and now they point and laugh at the very people who have made them rich. Lovely sentiment. I'm a vegetarian, but if I ate meat, I'd be tempted to drive to McDonald's or Sonic instead.
My 0.02 anyway.

Although I've resuscitated too many people with CPR, I've never had to do "mouth to mouth!" There always was equipment around that I could use.
Mr. Rogers would NEVER make unkind fun of anybody for anything!!
I don't think either are fat and I agree, dressing in clothes that are too tight does not flatter anyone. I feel like the Burger King ad is like watching a group or pre-teen boys who are completely immature make fun of girls. Grow up. Not to mention, BK is part of the childhood obesity problem.
I have never had mouth to mouth or given it. But I think it is great that you faked it! Too funny!
why can people get away with making fun of people when they are a little soft but when you write the truth about eating disorders you have lawyers calling you?? We all look better when our clothes fit…no matter our size.
I'll take the fat abuse if I can have Eggerts "fat" body.
Even with the swimsuit being a little bit tight, I still wouldn't call her fat. She could be a little more toned but she still looks great.
And I don't understand how the Burger King commercial can possibly make those kinds of associations when, like you say, it's responsible for obesity etc.
I really don't "get" these kinds of commercials at all!
Honestly, these kinds of things where celebrities are mocked as being "fat" kind of reminds me of when people were horrified by Hilary Clinton's 1/2 inch of "cleavage" showing. Ridiculous.
Well, Nicole will be on next season's Celebrity Fit Club, so that explains that video.
I love Eggert's video!
1- I don't know if it hurts less, but it probably does make you feel more in control to make your own punchline.
2- Don't know why, but I'm hoping it was to tell the world exactly what she told the guys about "real women".
3- I thought it was funny. A take-that, flipping the bird kind of funny, but funny.
4- The camera angles were cruel, the suit was too tight, and she's not in the shape from Baywatch days, but there is no way I would call her fat.
Only CPR I've ever had to do was in class. Glad I know it, but hope to never need it. Faking a death scene to receive mouth-to-mouth? NEVER gonna happen.
I think if her bathing suit fit a bit better, Nicole would look OK. I kinda found the video funny myself…I think she made a good point. But I still think she doesn't look fat…just not super perfect buffed.
I feel bad for Jessica Simpson tho – man…why is it OK to call her fat? Would that ad really appeal to men? I hope not…
I've only done CPR on a dummy in class. Thankfully, I've never needed to do it or have it done on me…
The sad thing is if you saw EITHER of these girls on the street guys would be drooling over them. I think the second video – she was purposefully sticking out her gut and wore a swimsuit that was WAY too tight – I think she was more mocking other people than her.
Neither were very funny. And burger king – seriously, rethink calling anyone fat but your burgers. 😛
The sad thing is if you saw EITHER of these girls on the street guys would be drooling over them.
What Quix said. Honestly, Nicole Eggert looks great. Fatter than some in H'wood? Sure, but that's not saying much.
And Jessica . . . holy crap, the only unflattering pictures of her showed her wearing MOM JEANS. Nobody looks good in those, but even then, she wasn't freakin' fat!
This crap gets me so riled up . . . grrrrr.
I found it really funny last year when I was on line in a drug store with my husband and I spotted an Enquirer Magazine with a picture of Jessica Simpson on it with a caption mentioning her "out of control" weight problem. I showed it to my husband and said, "Look, Jessica Simpson's gained weight." He looked the picture over and said, "Hm. I think she looks better than she did before."
But, to be blunt: I hate the media. I hate the fashion industry. I hate the music industry that turned music from being about music to being more about look and image and fashion than anything else. I hate 99% of what's on TV and in movies. Ugh. And I'm TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD. Can you imagine how much I will hate everything by the time I'm 40 or 50?
Besides what everybody else said about N.E. and J.S. not being fat (which I agree with), I'd like to add that it is not just cruel, but also completely ineffective as a weight loss incentive to mock fat people.
Even if J.S. and N.E. were fat, it doesn't make them lazy, subhuman or worthy of scorn.
And yes, if a person sees cruelty and derision coming her way, it might take the sting out of the mocking by beating everyone else to the punch.
In (semi-)unrelated news, AP is reporting that the model who was in the Ralph Lauren ad altered so that she looked like a bobble-head doll (Barbie's feeling bad about her body just thinking about that ad) was fired for being too fat. She says she's 5'10" and 120 pounds. (That puts her at a BMI of 17.2)

As a woman I personally think Jessica Simpson is a beautiful girl and criticisism of her is exactly what is wrong with our society. I know I have lost a lot of weight over the past 3 years with the help of a PT at http://www.illuminategym.com... I am really proud of myself but I still look nothing like Jessica Simpson. I guess I would still be considered a blimp by those standards.
I think the Nicole Eggert video is a) not funny at all and b) a publicity stunt to get people to watch her on Celebrity Fit Club. Also, that's pretty sad that she's considered "fat" in that video. Sad.
I thought neither of the commercials funny.. offensive, yes! I had seen them so did not need to view…. I never got the Jessica Simpson being fat thing!
As for mouth to mouth, never had it but yes, I can think of a couple people I would not mind helping me out.. although I may stop the rescue & move on to better things! 🙂 It is just fun… I am a happily married woman!
Ahh.. Burger King, The same folks that gave us the Sponge Bob Squarepants Fun meal comercial with dancers that have square padding in their spndex shorts who are dancing in a manner that suggests they are pimping these meals at either the daddies, or at the least preteen boys. Perhaps it's considered to be good, innovative marketing to have offensive ads?
I tried to watch the first video but it says that it is no longer available because of FOX's copyright claim or something or other.
I did watch the second one and found absolutely nothing funny about it.
She is beautiful and looks fantastic. I think she must have a very poor opinion of herself to let something like that created about her. Honestly I'd love to look that good in a bikini. She may be a little bigger than she was but she has gorgeous skin, and the little bit of added weight only makes her look real. I agree about the clothing. Put on something that fits, and you can look fantastic at any size!
Nicole Eggert looks great. I saw no stretch marks either. I'm still jealous of her. I hate that she referred to herself as "fat". She looks good and healthy.
Fox issued an apology to Jessica Simpson, you know, because it's easier to give an insincere apology than to think something through in the first place.
As for Nicole being on Celebrity Fit Club, I had no clue that that show was even still on, and how on earth did she qualify for it? Sure, she has a few pounds that she could lose, but from what I remember wasn't that show for very overweight D list celebrities?
Y'know, neither of the GUYS in that Nicole Eggert video has a perfectly-toned body, either. And yet, as usual, they sit (swim?) in judgement of every female in sight.
ARGH!!!!!! (I also think she looks terrific, and she's a nice person, as well.)
To blame a professional athlete's lack of ability and performance on the field on his current or ex-girlfriend is just PATHETIC! Romo is not getting the job done. A job, I might add, that he's paid A LOT of money for. So blame him. Bench him, replace him, whatever, but leave Jessica Simpson ALONE!!!!!!! (And Tony? karma can be a b**ch, eh?)
And, finally, I agree: Mr. Rogers would NEVER be so mean!
Are you f-ing serious? THIS is considered fat for a woman? Damn, she looks hot! Why the hell would you want to hook up with a broom stick???
